Blood Pressure Products
High blood pressure is dangerous because symptoms rarely appear. If hypertension is not treated, the risk of possible more serious problems increases: stroke or heart attack. A person can find out about the presence of hypertension only if he checks it himself. After determining the level of blood pressure, the patient will be prescribed appropriate medications, often combinations of them:
- At the age of less than 55 years, an ACE inhibitor or an angiotensin-2 receptor blocker (ARB) is most commonly prescribed;
- Over the age of 55, a calcium channel blocker is prescribed.
Depending on the seriousness of the situation, the doctor prescribes the duration of treatment. It may happen that the patient will have to take the medicine throughout his life. After choosing a medication, the doctor may stop treatment sooner or later, and reduce or increase the dose if blood pressure remains under control for several years.
Whatever medicine is chosen, always take it as directed, do not skip doses. Even if there are no changes in the state of health and the body, this does not mean that the medicine does not work. Some of them can also have side effects on the person being treated, but this is extremely rare. The choice of drugs allows you to change the treatment on the recommendation of a doctor.
